Some foundation dogs are inbred, isn't that a problem?
A few of the founding dogs are themselves the result of some fairly drastic inbreeding. We haven't prevented those dogs from taking part in the project for the simple reason that the inbreeding coefficient instantly becomes 0 whenever an inbred dog is bred to an unrelated one. Of course the original inbred dog may have some problems brought on by inbreeding but as long as we ensure that the inbreeding isn't continued and that we use only healthy dogs with good temperament for breeding, the higher inbreeding coefficient of a few founding dogs isn't a danger to the success of the project.
