The Project in a Nutshell
The goals of the JRT Genetic Diversity project:
- To make the gene pool of the Jack Russell Terrier in Finland larger and maintain the current genetic diversity of the breed
- To maintain the old working lines for future generations
- To use separate breeding groups and a rotational mating to keep the genetic base as diverse as possible
- To encourage cooperation between breeders = together we can make sure that all breeders don't breed using a similar combination of lines. This makes it possible to ascertain that dogs from all ancestries breed equally and that no lines are lost by mistake. Together we have a current overview of enough dogs for it to be significant for the breed.
- To collect precise data of all the project dogs from one generation to the next: data for research purposes, accurate information about the project dogs and their qualitites
This is not a collective breeding association, however. All individual breeders breed under their own prefix and follow Kennel Club rules as well as general good breeding practices.
