The Jack Russell Terrier Breed Standard

The Society for Canine Genetic Health and Ethics HETI ry
"The Society for Canine Genetic Health and Ethics aims at better welfare of the dog. The Society is concerned about health problems resulting from exaggerated breed standards. It also worries about the factors that weaken the ability of the dog to adjust to modern society. One of the goals of the Society is to support research that rises the level of knowledge about canine genetics and behaviour, and so enables better welfare of the dog. "

Hannes Lohi's site on canine genetic testing "I have started a canine genetic program in the University of Helsinki, Finland. Our objective is to collect many breeds of dogs with different inherited diseases and try to identify the genetic defects behind them. Potential gene discoveries will help us to devise DNA markers and tests, which can be used to reliably distinct affected, carrier and healthy dogs."

The Canine Diversity Project
"The Canine Diversity Project is an attempt to acquaint breeders of domesticated Canidae (dogs) with the dangers of inbreeding and the overuse of popular sires. Both lead to the indiscriminate loss of genetic diversity and increase the frequency of genetic problems in the population."
