Why do you import so many dogs from Britain?
There are dogs bred in a variety of countries in the project, from Britain to Ireland, Finland, Sweden and even Hungary. The British isles isn't prevalent for any other reason that the breed originated there and is still one of the most common breeds there. There is a huge amount of puppies available from which to choose and most of them are completely unrelated to the common lines used in Finland at the moment.
We also welcome the chance to import puppies whose parents still work as JRTs have done through the ages: hunting foxes, rabbits, rats or other vermin. They have been bred for agility, stamina and working qualities. Even though our aim isn't to breed only for working ability it is still one of the traits we're aiming to uphold while breeding for true type. At the same time the dogs will conform to the breed standard which says:
GENERAL APPEARANCE : A strong, active, lithe working Terrier of great character with flexible body of medium length. His smart movement matches his keen expression."
and on temperament:
"BEHAVIOUR / TEMPERAMENT : A lively, alert and active Terrier with a keen, intelligent expression. Bold and fearless, friendly but quietly confident."
The ability to truly do the work the breed was developed for is a valuable measurement of temperament which is only partly attained in any other method of measurement.
